![]() So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you." John 20:21 Most people if not all of us on planet earth have ventured into the “what am I here for or what is my purpose territory” It’s the longing question of all our hearts. Jesus covers two burning topics in the human race today. First He covers peace. That thing we all want even if we don’t always realise we want it. The whole world is fighting for peace (an ironic statement if ever there was one). You wouldn’t need all the money and riches in the world if you were at peace. Jesus knew this so He said be at peace. Ok Jesus, thank you for peace. What next? Then He says go, I am sending you! But that doesn’t sound very peaceful Jesus...? I mean do you really want me to interrupt people’s daily routines at the risk of being persecuted and mocked just so I can tell them about you? “Yes”! Ok... but I don’t feel at peace about this... In John 20:21 Jesus gives us what we want, and He tells us how to get it! There comes a peace when you’re in your purpose. 3 times in John 20 Jesus says to the disciples” peace be with you” or “peace to you” and then He commissions them on their purpose. As disciples of Jesus Christ we have been commissioned to go into the world. That is our purpose. Everything we are and everything we do is for one purpose - to win a dying world to the Kingdom of God. Your job isn’t just a job, it’s part of your purpose. The friends and colleagues you have aren’t just random people - God purposed you to be there to impact their lives with the Gospel. The vision God has for your life will always be about people! Your life is not about yourself. Your life is about other people. If it was about yourself, Jesus would probably have said something along the lines of “Peace to you! As the Father has helped me be happy, I also will help you to be happy.” The strange thing about our commission even as uncomfortable and awkward as it seems, there comes a joy and a feeling of being alive when you go and FETCH people for God’s Kingdom and with it a sense of peace that you are doing what you have been called to do. Jesus final words to the disciples in Matthew again re-affirm our purpose: Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:19-20. You don’t have to figure out your purpose, you just have to live it by being people minded. Not sharing Jesus Christ with your world would be like having the cure to AIDS and not sharing it! We have the cure to every known problem on this planet. Always remember you are not alone, you have power through the Holy Spirit to be a witness and as you witness you will come alive in your purpose and as you fulfil your purpose you will be at peace. Go and FETCH your world and you will experience the excitement and the peace of being in your purpose. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 Listen to MP3 |
